Dear Pauline: I have been asked to act in a play by our local amateur dramatic society but I have never done it before and I am terrified. How can I get over my fears?

Pauline answers:   A bottle or two of inexpensive wine  will usually be sufficient. If your budget doesn't run to this, you could always run a 'Bring And Buy' stall.

Dear Pauline: I am 26 and my boyfriend is 28. We have been going out together for eight weeks and he has suggested that we go on holiday together in his motor caravan. It only has one bed however and since I have not had a lot of experience with men before I am not sure if I am ready for this stage yet. What should I do?

Pauline answers: Performing in public is never easy the first time, particularly in front of  your neighbours. It is much easier though if you are confident of your performance so it is important that you rehearse your part regularly , preferably with the help of  some friends but you can do it alone in front of a mirror if necessary. When the big day arrives, take a deep breath and then go on and enjoy yourself!

Dear Pauline: My husband has bought me a very valuable prize rose for our 25th wedding anniversary but I am not very good at gardening. Can you suggest a good fertilizer for it?

Pauline answers: It sounds to me as though this man's intentions are dishonourable and he is trying to take advantage of you. Find someone else, there are plenty more fish in the sea.

Dear Pauline: My local church is holding a fund raising day and I would like to make a contribution. I have very little money to spare so could suggest something?

Pauline says: Well rotted manure, the older the better!
